After enjoying our Hamburg native pickled fish sandwiches on the harbor, a group of us decided to go on a mini-excursion. Adam, Blake, Alex, Nicole and I decided to check out the Blankanese Beach, which was just a few ferry stops from our hostel. We got to hop on the ferry and enjoy the beautiful sunny and seventy-five-degree weather on the top deck, where we shared stories and laughs from a few local residents of Hamburg. We were sure we reached our destination because when we exited the ferry there were pirate boats docked, restaurants along the land, and there were several people enjoying the water.
When we arrived to the shore, we strolled along the sandy river side and watched the Hamburgers enjoy the day with their families and pets. Parents rode their bikes with their children, while their dog trotted behind them. Several people were throwing tennis balls into the river, while their enthused hounds flew into the water to fetch them for their loyal owners. People enjoyed gelato together under the umbrellas in the beautiful Hamburg weather. But the water and the sand were not the only aspect of the beach that made our adventure wonderful! Since the richest residents in Hamburg live on the coast of this beach, we got to stroll through the neighborhood and take in the smell of fresh flowers and the sight of beautiful modern German architecture. The local children were skipping along the sidewalk while the streets are hustling and bustling with motorcycles, smart cars, and taxis for all the people making their way to the beach. Overall, we had a such an awesome time learning the history of the beach and submerging ourselves in the everyday lives of the local Blankenese
Beach residents!
