Bzzzzz. A new notification caught my eye as I sat on the balcony of our hotel on that crisp Monday night. An email, out of the blue from a name that I didn’t recognize. The email asked if I was interested in a Co-Op and if I would be available for an interview at some point this week. Yes and yes! We scheduled the interview two days from then (so Wednesday) at 4:30 German time. Perfect. I had plenty of time to brush up on my resume, look up some old interview questions, and think about how I would potentially answer them if I had to do so. Practice makes perfect, right?

4:30 on Wednesday came around faster than I could’ve expected. My phone began to ring. It was time to put all my practice answers to the test. But when the questions started to roll out I realized that none of these questions resembled anything that I had previously tried to practice. It’s funny how fast you can freeze up when being caught off-guard. It was the perfect example of being faced with unexpected adversity, but the only way to deal with adversity is to overcome. Sometimes you have to get creative, and sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. And that’s exactly what I planned on doing. I settled relaxed, let my brain settle down, and my answers started to come out pretty fluidly.

I am really glad that I mentioned that I was on a study abroad to the man that was interviewing me. He was genuinely curious about the details of the program, the experiences that I have had so far, and I believe he tailored some of the questions around the subject. If nothing else, it was a great way to begin the interview and get some of my early jitters out. Overall, I thought the interview went really well and I am excited about the future opportunity that I could potentially have. I should hear back within the next week or two and, depending on what I hear, my Fall could look drastically different than what I am used to. I would be giving up an LSU football season, a whole semester with my friends, and undoubtedly things I can’t even think of right now. It’s a lot to sacrifice, but it’s an opportunity that would be hard to pass up. Fingers crossed!
